How events work on InkMap
OverviewWhat InkMap events are, who can post them versus browse them, the difference between public and private events, how joining and capacity work, where they show on the map, and where the events you join appear.
Events are the one-off happenings studios put on — flash days, workshops, charity days, studio openings, pop-up shops, and more. Studios post them; anyone can browse them and join the ones they like.
This page explains the whole picture in one place. The step-by-step guides cover each part in detail.
What counts as an event
An event is a dated happening with a place, a time, and an optional price. When the poster creates one, they pick a type — flash day, workshop, charity event, studio opening, pop-up shop, and a long list of others — and that type shows as a labelled tag on the event so you can tell at a glance what kind of thing it is.
Events are always tied to a real venue. That's why only studio accounts with a physical address can post them.
If you want to post (studios)
Posting is for studio accounts, and there are two requirements: your profile must have a venue address, and the Events & Job Board subscription must be active. See Premium for the subscription, and Creating an event for the form.
An event happens at your studio by default, but you can also set it at a different address — and when you do, it drops its own separate pin on the Map where the event is actually held.
If you want to browse and join
Browsing is open to everyone. You find events in the Events section of the News tab, filter them by type, date, and place, and tap one to see the full details — description, dates, address, price, and who's going.
Joining is for individual people: collectors and practitioners. Studio accounts can post events but can't join them. Joining is immediate — there's no request to approve. If the poster set a maximum number of people and it fills up, the event shows as FULL and you can't join until a spot opens. See Finding and joining events.
Public versus private
Every event is either public or private. A public event can be seen and joined by anyone. A private event is visible and joinable only to the organiser, the people invited by username, and anyone who has already joined — no one else sees it anywhere: not in the News feed, not on the studio's profile, and not on the Map. Only invited accounts get notified about it.
How events show on the map
Events appear on the Map so people can find them by place:
- An event held at the studio doesn't get its own pin — instead the studio's existing pin lights up with an event glow, so you can tell that studio has something on.
- An event at a different address drops its own separate event pin at that location. Tap it to open the event.
Event pins and the studio event-glow show when you're looking for events — when no filter is set, when the Events filter is ticked, or when you've set an event date or type filter. A private event only shows on the map for the people allowed to see it (the organiser, the invited accounts, and anyone who joined). For how to read every mark on the map, see What the map pins mean.
Where your joined events show up
The events you join appear under the Events section of your own profile's News tab, so people visiting your profile can see what you're going to. You can hide all of them or pick which ones to show. See Showing or hiding your events.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I cancel an event I joined?
Yes. Open the event and tap Leave Event. Your spot frees up for someone else.
- I'm an independent practitioner — can I post an event?
No. Posting events is for studios. You can browse and join any event, the same as everyone else.
