Starting a conversation and sending messages
Messages on InkMap are one-to-one. How to start a chat with someone, and everything you can put in a message — text, photos, voice notes, replies, and reactions.
Conversations on InkMap are one-to-one — you and one other person. This guide covers how to start a chat and what you can put in a message.
Step by step
- 1
Open your inbox
Open your own profile and tap the chat icon in the header. That's your inbox, with every conversation you're part of.
- 2
Start a new conversation
There are two ways in:
- Tap Message on someone's profile. The same button shows up on a booking, a review, and a job application, so you can reach the other person straight from wherever you are.
- In your inbox, type a name into the search bar at the top and tap the person you want.
A conversation isn't created until you send your first message — opening a chat and backing out without sending leaves nothing behind for either of you.
- 3
Send a message
Type your message and send. Text is capped at 500 characters.
You can also:
- Tap the microphone to record and send a voice note.
- Attach photos with the + button — up to six per message. The + does more than photos; see Sharing content and @mentions for the full menu.
- 4
Reply, react, and read status
- Reply to a specific message to quote it above your own. Tap the quote later to jump back to the original.
- React to a message with a quick emoji.
- A message you've sent shows a read mark once the other person has seen it, and you'll see when they're typing.
