Organizing your inbox
Sort conversations between the Principal and General tabs, pin the ones that matter, mute the noisy ones, mark a chat unread, and clear a conversation from your side.
Your inbox has a few tools for keeping conversations in order. Everything here is your own view — none of it changes what the other person sees.
Principal and General tabs
Two tabs sit at the top of your inbox. Each conversation lives in one of them. To move a conversation, press and hold it and choose to switch its tab. Where you put a conversation is private to you.
Pin a conversation
Press and hold a conversation and choose Pin to keep it at the top of the list. You can pin up to three.
Mute
Press and hold a conversation and choose Mute for 8 hours, 1 week, or always. Muting stops push notifications for that chat — the conversation still shows in your inbox and still counts toward your unread badge. Even without muting, message alerts are spaced out so a busy chat doesn't buzz your phone constantly — see How notifications reach you.
Mark as unread
Press and hold a conversation and choose Mark as unread to leave yourself a dot reminder to come back to it.
Delete a conversation
Press and hold a conversation and choose Delete. This clears it from your inbox only — the other person keeps their copy.
Find someone to message
The search bar at the top of the inbox finds people by name once you've typed at least two letters. Tap a result to start a chat.
Frequently asked questions
- If I delete a conversation, does the other person lose it too?
No. Deleting only removes it from your own inbox.
- I muted a chat but it still shows a number.
Muting only silences push notifications. The conversation and its unread count still appear in your inbox.
