Featured images
Practitioners pick three images and studios pick four to represent them. Here's how to choose yours and everywhere they show up across InkMap.
Featured images are the handful of posts that represent you across the app. Practitioners have three; studios have four. They're pulled from posts you've already published — you don't upload anything separate. They're often the first work someone sees of you outside your full profile.
While you have an empty slot, new posts are featured automatically. You don't have to do anything to get pictures onto your map pin. When you write a post, just above the Publish button you'll see the pictures people find you by on the map, any empty spaces among them, and a tickbox — Show this one there too — which starts ticked while you have a space free. Leave it ticked and the post goes up with it. Once all three (four for a studio) are filled, the tickbox is replaced by a note that you're already showing the most the map will show, and nothing is added or replaced — your pin is set and the app goes quiet about it.
Unticking that box just means not this photo. It doesn't change anything about your next post, where the box will start ticked again.
Taking a picture off your pin is the thing that stops it. Do that — by tapping a star in your Feeds tab, or by removing one in the picture chooser — and the app tells you it's leaving the pictures to you from then on, and stops putting new posts up by itself. If you change your mind, ticking Show this one there too on any later post turns it back on.

Open your work
Go to your own profile and open your Feeds tab (or Gallery, if you're a studio), where your published posts live. The starred posts are the ones currently on your pin.

Star the ones you want
Tap the star on a post to feature it. Tap it again to unfeature. You can feature up to three (practitioners) or four (studios) — once you're at the limit, unfeature one to make room for another.
Once you've unfeatured something, the app won't quietly refill the slot from a later post. Taking a picture off is how you tell it you'd rather choose yourself, and it doesn't forget: from then on, publishing with a free slot asks you first.
Where your featured images appear
Your featured images don't just sit on your profile. They surface in the places people discover you:
- On the map — when lots of pins sit close together and group into a cluster, the cluster preview shows featured images from the people inside it.
- On a studio's pin — the panel that slides up when someone taps a studio shows the studio's own featured images, and each team member's card shows theirs.
- On a studio's Team tab — each person on the team is shown with their featured images.
- On guest cards — when a practitioner is doing a guest spot at a studio, their guest card on that studio's profile shows their featured images.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I feature an image that isn't one of my posts?
No. Featured images are chosen from posts you've already published, so the first step is always to post the work.
- The app put my post on my pin. Can I undo that?
Yes. The simplest way is to untick Show this one there too above the Publish button before you post, which keeps that one off without changing anything else. Afterwards, open your Feeds tab (Gallery for a studio) and tap the star on any post to add or remove it. Nothing is locked in — but note that removing a picture this way also tells the app to stop choosing for you in future, and it will say so when it happens.
- I told the app to stop choosing my pictures. How do I get it back?
Tick Show this one there too above the Publish button on your next post. That's the one action that means "yes, put my posts there", so it switches the automatic behaviour back on as well as putting that post up.
- I have nothing starred. Is my pin empty?
Yes — the picture row on your pin shows exactly what you've starred and nothing else, so if you've starred nothing, visitors see no work there. The app never substitutes other posts of yours to fill it; what's on your pin is your choice. If you unstar everything, only you get a note on your own pin telling you the row is empty.
