Finding and joining events
How anyone browses events in the News tab, filters them by type, date, and place, opens an event to see the details, and joins or leaves — plus what the FULL badge means and the reminder bell.
Anyone can browse events and join the ones they like. This guide covers finding events in the News tab, narrowing the list, and joining. If you want the bigger picture first, read How events work on InkMap.
Step by step
- 1
Open the Events section of the News tab
Tap the News tab in the bottom bar, then the Events section. You'll see a list of upcoming events. Events that have already finished drop off the list automatically, so everything you see is still to come.
- 2
Narrow the list with filters
Use the filter bar at the top of the Events list to focus on what you want:
- Type — flash days, workshops, charity events, studio openings, and the rest.
- Date — a single day, a date range, or all upcoming events.
- Place — search for a country, region, or city.
The list updates to match. Clear the filters to go back to everything.
- 3
Open an event
Tap any event to see its full page: the poster (tap their name to visit the studio's profile), the description, the dates and times, the price (or Free), and the address. Tap the address to jump to it on the Map, or use Copy Address, Directions, and Share under the address — the same quick actions you get from a studio pin on the map. Share can include the studio's public web page link. You'll also see who's going — a row of participant avatars and the count, next to the maximum if the poster set one.
- 4
Join or apply
Most events use Join Event — you're in straight away. Some events (often seminars and courses) require an application instead: tap Apply to Join, wait for the studio to accept, and you'll get a notification when they respond. While your application is pending, the button shows Application Pending. To pull out later, open the event again and tap Leave Event (or apply again if you were declined).
Joining is for individual people. If you're on a studio account, the join button doesn't appear — studio accounts post events rather than attend them.
- 5
If the event is full
When an event reaches the maximum number of people, it shows a FULL badge and the button reads Event Full. You can't join until someone leaves and a spot opens up.
- 6
Turn on reminders for an event
On an event's page, tap the bell at the top to get reminder notifications — one week before the event and one day before it starts. Tap it again to turn reminders off. The bell is only for these pre-event reminders.
If the organiser changes the title, date, time, or location, or deletes the event, everyone who joined gets notified automatically — you don't need the bell for that. Bell subscribers who haven't joined also get change and cancellation alerts. You manage all your event reminders from the Notifications area.
Frequently asked questions
- I'm a piercer, laser, or PMU practitioner — why was I asked to block my calendar?
Because you take fixed-time client bookings, joining or applying asks whether you want to reserve time on your calendar. Choose Allow bookings to leave your schedule open, or Choose times to block to pick which days and hours clients can't book you — useful for multi-day events when you only want part of each day blocked. If the organiser later moves the event, your blocked windows move with the new dates. You can leave the event anytime.
- Why can't I see an event a friend told me about?
It may be private. A private event is only visible to the organiser, the people invited by username, and anyone who's already joined. If you're invited, check the Invited lane on your own profile's Events section.
- Can I find events on the Map?
Yes. An event held at the studio makes that studio's pin glow pink whenever the studio has a live event you can see — the glow is always visible and does not depend on map filters. An event at a different address gets its own pin where it's held — tap it to open the event.
